1. Planting Environment Requirements: Okra prefers a warm, humid climate. It is resistant to heat but not cold, and its ideal growing temperature is 30–45°C. It requires abundant sunlight, at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, and is suitable for fertile, well-drained soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8.
2. Sowing: Sow when the temperature is consistently above 15°C in spring, preferably in March–April. Soak the seeds for 12 hours before sowing, sow to a depth of 1–2 cm, sowing 2–3 seeds in each hole, with row spacing of 60–90 cm and plant spacing of 30–45 cm.
3. Germination and Seedling Growth: Okra seeds germinate in 6–10 days. When seedlings develop 2-3 true leaves, thin them to retain the strongest and remove the rest to ensure the necessary space for growth.
4. Harvest: 60-70 days after sowing, pods can be harvested when they have grown to 5-10 cm. Cut the pods with scissors to avoid damaging the plant. Okra pods grow quickly and need to be checked and picked daily to prevent them from becoming stale and tough.
